Meet PS Planning Ambassador: Anna Bond

As co-founder and Creative Director of Rifle Paper Co, Anna Bond, has perfected her organization routine successfully taking a small business in her apartment to an internationally recognized brand. What does your process for planning look like?

I dream big and then dig in to the day-to-day. I would like to say I am very good about completing tasks before moving on to the next but I tend to bounce around different projects at one time. I like to plan out my weeks and days with general lists of what needs to get done, but not necessarily the order I need to do them in.

Are you better at short term planning or long-term planning? Why?

I’m better at long-term planning. I’m not as much of a process person as I am a vision person. I always see where I want to go but sometimes figuring out the steps and day-to-day tasks to get there are challenging.

What did you like about the calendar or planner you chose?

I chose our Rifle Paper Co. 17-month planner. I love that it is small enough to fit in my tote bag but has enough space to write out everything I need to plan. It has both monthly and weekly views and the elastic closer helps keep notes and extra papers tucked into pages.

 

While planning, what “view” do you prefer: month at a glance, day at a glance or week at a glance? Why?

Both! I designed our planner with both views and all of the monthly views are grouped together in the beginning so that you can easily get an overview of the year. I love seeing everything from a high level. I use weekly views for tasks and scheduling meetings.

 

How do you accessorize your planner? Is it for personal style or functionality/productivity?

We added sticker sheets to our 17-month planners this year and I am very excited to use them throughout the pages. Some are functional (appointments, birthdays, deadlines) and others are more playful (flowers, icons, flourishes).

 

What was your favorite part about back to school shopping growing up?

I loved getting my list of supplies from school and going around to various stores with my mom to pick out new notebooks, pencils, rulers, and so on. Probably my favorite part was packing up my backpack the night before the first day and feeling so prepared and full of wonder about what the new school year would bring. I still feel so excited when I open up a new notebook for the first time and put the first word on a page.

 

What office accessories are essential in a meeting?

My go-to is always a pen and notebook. I take notes by hand and then type anything I need to remember or archive on the computer.

 

Do you have any organization hacks or tricks you can share?

Find a home for everything. It’s much easier to put things away when you know exactly where they should go. If I’m going to do a huge overhaul organization of a space I take everything out of the room, organize in piles of what to keep and what to get rid of, and then move everything back in the way it should be. I find that easier and even less time consuming than trying to re-organize within a space.

 

Would it be more chaotic losing your calendar for your personal/home life or work life? Why?

I have one calendar with both personal and work mixed together so things would be pretty dire if I lost it! At least there are other people in our office who are aware of my tasks and help schedule meetings and projects so I would be more worried about losing the personal aspects.

 

 What would your ideal desk and work space look like?

Ideally a clean, organized and light-filled environment. I love having a pin board to pin up inspiration and projects I am working on and I always have a separate area for painting. My home office is very organized, but my work office is always a work in progress. I have piles of things everywhere in there. But even when it’s messy, I love feeling surrounded by samples and projects I am working on.
